Honda recalls faulty motorbikes

Honda Korea plans to voluntarily recall 32 units of its Shadow 750 motorcycles due to manufacturing defects that could cause engines to stall unexpectedly, the country’s Transportation Ministry said Thursday.

The decision resulted from a malfunction in bank angle sensors, which are designed to turn off the engine only when the motorbikes fall onto its side, according to the manufacturer.

The recall applies to the model made in Japan between Dec. 23, 2009 and Feb. 25, 2011, the ministry said.

Owners of the recalled motorcycles can receive free repairs starting Friday, the ministry added. Those who have already done repairs on their own can file a request for compensation.

The local unit of the Japanese automaker said it will notify the owners by mail. For more information, call (080) 322-3300.
