Top court confirms jail terms for former Korea Univ. medical students

The Supreme Court on Thursday upheld lower courts' prison sentences for two former students at a prestigious medical school convicted of sexually harassing an inebriated female schoolmate during a trip.

Judge Chon Soo-an confirmed the two-and-a-half-year prison term for a 24-year-old man surnamed Park, while upholding the one-and-a-half-year term for another man with the surname Bae.

The top court also confirmed an order that the pair's identities and personal information be published and made available to the public for three years.

The two men and a fellow student surnamed Han, all from the medical school at Korea University, repeatedly groped the body of their long-time female schoolmate while she was sleeping under the influence of liquor during a suburban trip in May last year. They also took pictures of their actions.

Two lower courts previously handed down the same prison terms, while sentencing Han to a term of one and a half years. Han did not appeal his sentence to the Supreme Court.

Korea University expelled all three in the aftermath of the abuse scandal last year. (Yonhap News)
