TOEFL okays Korean currency payments

Students can now pay in Korean currency to take a TOEFL iBT test by using credit or check cards, officials said.

The TOEFL test is one of the most widely recognized English assessment and is used in more than 130 countries, including Korea. But the payment so far has been limited to U.S. dollars.

The Educational Testing Service announced Thursday that the new payment choice will be available by selecting the credit card option through the TOEFL online registration system.

The Euro, Yen, and Rupee are also now accepted as payment through the online registration system.

The new payment choice will be cost-saving for Korean students as they will no longer have to pay currency exchange fees charged by most debit and credit card companies, according to the ETS.

“We continue to listen to our test takers and implement innovative ways to make the overall TOEFL experience more efficient,” said David Hunt, Vice President of ETS’s Global Division.
