Hyundai BNG Steel CEO Chung Il-sun’s assault case has been transferred to the prosecution, with recommendations to indict him for violating the Labor Standards Act, the Ministry of Employment and Labor said July 27.
Chung, who is a grandson of Hyundai Group founder Chung Ju-young, is alleged to have assaulted his chauffeur, and hired a total of 61 chauffers over the course of three years.

He is also accused of forcing his drivers to work more than 56 hours a week, with most of his former drivers saying that they worked more than 80 hours a week. Claims of being assaulted by the third-generation Hyundai scion were made by a former employee.
Chung’s abuse of employees came to light in April when it was revealed that he forced his drivers to follow irrational and unusual protocols. At the time it was claimed that the drivers were made to follow a 140-page manual that includes detailed instructions on how to interact with him.
Drivers failing to follow the manual are said to have been subjected to verbal and physical abuse, and made to write out a report detailing why they failed to do so.
