THE INVESTOR] Renault Samsung Motors said on July 25 it will produce next-generation engines for Renault and Nissan vehicles at its Busan plant.
The Korean unit of France’s Renault Group had been competing with other overseas plants of the Renault-Nissan Alliance, including those in China and Japan, to host the strategic partner firms’ new engine production facilities.

The company said it could reduce 13.1 billion won (US$12 million) of annual production costs by locally producing key parts such as cylinder block, cylinder head and crankshaft for Renault-Nissan’s two MR engines -- 1.6-liter GDI turbo and 2.0-liter GDI.
The engines will be equipped in Renault Samsung’s SM6 sedan, which is known as Talisman in overseas markets, and other Renault models produced at its France and Spain plants.
