The world’s fastest pick-up truck

MUNICH, Germany (DPA) ― BMW has built what it claims to be the world’s fastest pick-up truck, the BMW M3 pick-up, with an output of 309kW/420 hp under the bonnet and a top speed of 300 kph.

The one-off concept vehicle was taken for “comprehensive testing” under strictest secrecy on the Nuerburgring racetrack on April 1, the car maker said.

The rear-axle is said to have a load capacity of up to 450 kilograms, combining race-orientated pleasure with everyday utility purposes.

Both the load area behind and the roof above the driver and passenger can be removed. Fine-tuned aerodynamics and a tailored suspension set-up give it the same aerodynamic factor as the BMW M3Coupe.

The load-bed is clad in high-grade structured aluminum sheeting with the capacity to carry up to 20 standard 46-inch golf bags, according to BMW.

However, the unusual pick-up will not be heading for the golf course or series development and is earmarked for use as a workshop transport vehicle for the BMW M factory, the car maker said.
