Kim Byung-chul to head Korea University

Kim Byung-chul, a professor at the Division of Biotechnology and Food Science at Korea University will head the school as its 18th president, the university board announced Dec. 28th.

The new president earned his bachelor’s degree in 1976 from Seoul National University in zootechnics, and a master’s degree in the same field at Korea University. He also received a master’s degree at the University of Goettingen in Germany.

Later he served as administrative provost at Korea University, dean of the Division of Life Sciences and Biotechnology and vice president of academic affairs.

His career history also includes positions as president of Korean Animal Science and Technology, vice president at the Korean Society for Food Science of Animal Resources, a member of the livestock products hygiene examination committee at the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, and a non-permanent director at the Korea Agro-Fisheries Trade Corp.

The newly appointed president will serve his four-year presidential term at the university beginning in March and the ceremony will take place on Feb. 28th at the university.
