K-pop groups dominate Billboard World Albums Chart

As of Wednesday morning, four K-pop groups have earned their places on the weekly Billboard World Albums Chart.

Just a week after releasing their first mini-album, all-male group NCT 127 ranked No. 2 on the list, trailing British rock band Mumford & Sons’ “Johannesburg.”

The seven-member multinational boy band, which debuted earlier this month, already boasts a strong global following, topping the iTunes charts in six different countries, including the Philippines, Peru, Thailand, Singapore and Vietnam. The music video for the group’s hit track “Fire Truck” gained over one million views on YouTube in less than 24 hours of its unveiling.

Meanwhile, girl group GFriend’s first full-length album “LOL” stood at No. 7, the mini-album “Scene Stealer” by Jay Park and Ugly Duck at No. 8, and K-pop quintet Beast’s third full studio album “Highlight” at No. 9.

The Billboard World Albums Chart is a weekly compilation of top-selling music albums in and out of the U.S.
