Preorders surge for 'Descendants of the Sun' soundtrack

The original soundtrack album of the hit television series "Descendants of the Sun" has raked in jaw-dropping preorders since being made available only three days ago, industry data showed Wednesday.

The preorders of the OST album broke the 10,000 mark on March 18, thanks to the unchallenged boom of the military romantic television series, according to the data provided by local drama OST music distributor MUSIC&NEW.

Preorders were launched online on March 16, a week before the album is released in stores on March 24.

It is a rarity for a television OST album to surpass the 10,000 mark in presales alone. The average OST album of a hit drama sells about 20,000 copies, which combines presales and regular sales, according to the album distributor.

Even for the nation's mega-hit drama "Reply "1988," it took three OST albums, including both preorders and regular ones, to surpass 30,000 copies.

"The album has drawn significant attention from customers, with six songs off the soundtrack (of 'Descendants of the Sun') occupying the top 1-6 slots on major music charts," a MUSIC&NEW official said.

"Descendants of the Sun" is slated to release two volumes. The first volume includes a total of 19 songs, including songs and the instrumental versions of each song: "Always" by Yoon Mi-rae, "Everytime" by Chen and Punch, "This Love" by Davichi, the Korean and English versions of "You Are My Everything" by Gummy and "Once Again" by Kim Na-young featuring Mad Clown.

The second volume, without a set date of release, includes songs by K-Will, Lynn and Junsu of the K-pop boy band JYJ.

KBS 2TV's "Descendants of the Sun" is broadcast every Wednesday and Thursday at 10 p.m. (Yonhap)
