South Korea's Navy Chief of Staff Adm. Jung Ho-sup Tuesday discussed ways to expand naval cooperation with his British counterpart, the Navy said.
In the meeting with Adm. George Zambellas, the chief of the naval staff of the Royal Navy, the officials also delved into how to further tighten their cooperation in global peacekeeping operations, as well as in the defense manufacturing industry, the Navy said.
The security situation on the Korean Peninsula was also part of the discussion.
Zambellas arrived in South Korea on Monday for a four-day trip, mainly intended for the christening ceremony for a navy vessel on Wednesday.
The ceremony is planned for the first of the four supply vessels to be delivered to the Royal Navy in December.
In 2012, Britain awarded Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. a contract to build and deliver the vessels by 2017.
As part of the countries' efforts to strengthen ties, a South Korean Navy team will visit Britain's naval base in Portsmouth as part of its training tour. (Yonhap)
