Welcome auction to improve life on Jeju

A charity auction is running on Jeju until Sept. 30 to raise cash for needy people on the island.

The Jeju Furey Foundation is gathering funds for a grandmother and her two orphaned grandchildren by selling off household goods.

The family receives 200,000 won a month in welfare and a little more from the odd work she can find,” said Jeju Furey founder Daniel Nabben.

“The fact that this family is in dire need is best explained in that through the winter, all of the heating that the three family members get comes from a single electric blanket.

“Participating in Jeju Furey events, purchasing apparel, raffle tickets and food all helps in a big way to get this family to a reasonable standard of living.”

Bidding for auction items is running from now until 11:59 p.m. on Sept. 30 with purchases available for pickup at a 12-hour beach volleyball tournament at Jeju’s Iho beach from 7 a.m. on Oct. 8.

Since the foundation aims not only to provide for the needy, but also to strengthen the community, reasonably-priced buyouts have been included for many of the more essential items.
