Hyundai Motor Co.'s midsize sedan, the Sonata, is poised to win the best-selling Korean car title this year for the second consecutive year, industry data showed Tuesday.
According to data from the Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association, domestic sales of the Sonata hit 95,760 units in the first 11 months of this year.
Hyundai Motor's one-ton Porter truck and the Avante compact came in second and third, respectively, with 91,327 and 86,968 units sold during the cited period.
With sales amounting to around 8,000 units per month, the total number of Sonatas that will be sold in 2015 will likely exceed 100,000, which will place it ahead of the Avante compact that held the title from 2011 through 2013, as well as other domestic rivals.
The Sonata, currently in its seventh generation, dominated the local car market from 1999 to 2010, outselling all other passenger cars, SUVs and commercial vehicles.
Hyundai Motor's Santa Fe SUV came in fourth with 80,739 units sold in the first 11 months of the year, followed by Kia Motors Corp.'s Morning city car with 78,398 units and Hyundai's full-size entry luxury Grandeur with 75,982, the data showed. (Yonhap)
