Gwangju will host the 2015 International Design Alliance Congress, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said Friday.
The city was selected on Thursday in Montreal, Canada, based on the strength of its bid co-led by the Korea Craft & Design Foundation and Gwangju Metropolitan City government during an international bidding process that began in November 2011.
The biannual event, IDA Congress, aims to bring together the international design community in a themed framework to advance the vision and mission of the IDA by engaging government, business, science and technology, education and the social sciences as well as international non-governmental organizations.
About 2,000 design experts from 50 different countries are expected to attend the 2015 congress under the theme of “Collective Design.”
