Samsung to start sales of 'mixed reality' headset

Samsung Electronics Co. said Wednesday it will release its so-called mixed reality headset in South Korea next week, tapping deeper into the virtual reality gaming industry.

The South Korean tech giant said that sales will start on Tuesday of the Samsung Head Mounted Display Odyssey developed with US Microsoft Corp., which can be used to play VR gaming content.

First showcased in the US last month, the Samsung HMD Odyssey comes with dual-AMOLED displays, providing users with a view angle of 110 degrees.

It also boasts AKG headphones, a premium brand under Harman International Industries, acquired by Samsung.

The company said the 645-gram product can easily be utilized by plugging it into a personal computer. The six degrees-of-freedom technology also boasts top-notch motion control accuracy, it added.

Users can also enjoy real-time voice chat over an internal microphone, Samsung added. The headset is priced at 790,000 won ($708).
