Samsung Electronics Co. and SK Telecom Co. on Thursday demonstrated the communication between fourth-generation and fifth-generation networks for the first time in the industry, the companies said.
The South Korean tech giant and the country's No. 1 mobile carrier said they successfully made communications between the long-term evolution network that utilizes 2.6 GHz frequency band, with that of the 5G network that uses the 28 GHz and 3.5 GHz frequency band.
Samsung said the communication was made without any disruptions, enabling clear streaming between the two networks.

The company said the technology will allow 4G and 5G users to communicate even without nationwide 5G network infrastructure.
"Along with the 5G network's 3.5 GHz frequency band that provides a wider coverage, and the 28 GHz frequency band that enables ultrahigh-speed transmission, the connection with the 4G network will help users enjoy the best communications services anywhere without disruptions," SK Telecom said.
Samsung said it is vital to secure the technology to connect new telecom technologies with existing services, adding the latest development will speed up the adoption of the 5G network. (Yonhap)
