Hyundai Motor launches refurbished i40 saloon

South Korea's top carmaker Hyundai Motor Co. launched its new edition of the i40 family vehicle in its home market on Monday, putting emphasis on a new diesel engine that ups fuel efficiency.

Both the sedan and wagon models of the new i40 are updated with a Euro 6-compliant diesel engine and paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, according to the automaker.

The 1.7-liter variable geometry turbo diesel engine version has a maximum city-highway fuel mileage of 16.7 kilometers per liter of fuel, depending on the trim level.

The diesel engine option can generate a maximum of 141 horsepower with 34.7 kilogram-meter of torque at its best.

The front is embellished with a single-frame hexagonal grille that gives the car a more powerful look, while the rear LED lights are built with a shapely and futuristic design, the company said.

Prices for the new i40 begin at 24.95 million won (US$23,159.75) for the sedan models, while those of the wagon editions start at 25.95 million won. (Yonhap)
