Hyundai Motor launches improved 2015 Equus in home market

Hyundai Motor Co. said Sunday it will launch the 2015 Equus full-size upscale sedan this week in its home market, placing greater emphasis on luxury with the addition of various driver-focused technologies.

South Korea's No. 1 automaker said the vertical radiator grille and 17-speaker Lexicon sound system were added to the new Equus as standard, while the interior has been fitted with premium Napa leather for the Exclusive trim levels and above.

"The 2015 Equus places focus on adding more of the features deemed favorable by our buyers as well as strengthening the luxury aspect," a Hyundai Motor official said.

To offer a more convenient driving experience, the new Equus is equipped with second-generation Blue Link in-vehicle technology, allowing drivers to use their smartphone to remotely control their car via the Hyundai Blue Link app, according to the carmaker.

With the feature, available in most new Hyundai models, drivers can start their vehicle, pre-set cabin temperature, activate the horn and lights, or check the condition of their car with their smartphone. Drivers may also be able to voice-activate their car in the near future after Hyundai showcases its Blue Link smartwatch app at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

The sticker price for the five-seat base sedan is 69.1 million won (US$62,562), while the 3.8 Premium and Exclusive trims are priced at 78.9 million won and 89.1 million won, respectively. The top of the line 5.0 Prestige trim costs 145.7 million won, according to Hyundai Motor.

The company said the Premium trim comes with various options that add up to 2.3 million won in extra features compared to the previous version, but the price has risen just 1.04 million won. (Yonhap)
