Users welcome Facebook’s new verified pages

As Facebook launched verified pages for celebrities starting from Wednesday, users welcomed the social network’s move.

Facebook started to put a small blue circle with a white check mark to indicate that the page has been authenticated. The symbol is seemingly inspired by the icon used by Twitter.

Pages of high-profile figures like Barak Obama that have already gone through the verification process have the blue icon right next to their names.

Facebook users welcomed the company’s new measure that allows them to find ‘authentic’ pages easily.

One American user said, “I hate it when I see people being conned by fake profiles. I just wish people were less gullible, but this will help … hopefully.”

A South Korean user said, “Facebook should have adopted the system earlier. There are so many imposters in Facebook. It’s annoying.”

While Facebook had been notorious for overflowing with fake pages so far, its rivals such as Twitter and Google Plus have successfully adopted verified pages.
