POSCO launches panel for Park T.J. commemoration

POSCO said on Sunday that it has organized a committee to implement a series of commemorative works for its founder Park Tae-joon.

The committee consists of 20 prominent figures including POSCO CEO Chung Joon-yang, chairwoman Lee Bae-yong of the Presidential Council on National Branding and Pohang-born author Lee Dae-hwan.

The panel plans to convene a quarterly meeting to direct the commemoration-related works from 2013, after the organization changes its official title to “The POSCO Cheongam Foundation.” The committee will monitor the construction of a memorial epitaph in the National Cemetery in Seoul in recognition of Park’s contribution to Korea’s economy, the company said.

The steelmaker has compiled a five-volume memoir, “Taejoonism: Philosophy of TJ Park,” which puts together writings by a number of Park’s friends and acquaintances on his business philosophy and leadership. The company also announced a plan to produce a TV soap, “Steel King,” with reference to Park as the hero.

POSCO said that the commemoration project will be a reminder of the former chairman’s dedicated business philosophy, through which the company’s officials and employees as well as Korean citizens can form a fresh bond to fight the global recession.
