Four Korean member companies of the World Steel Association ― POSCO, Hyundai Steel, Dongkuk Steel Mill and Dongbu Steel ― are jointly hosting the association’s key meetings in Seoul to discuss the pending issues of the global steel industry.
Some 100 top executives from about 40 steelmakers in 20 countries including Xiaogang Zhang, president of China’s Anshan Iron & Steel Group Corporation, attended the meeting of Worldsteel’s executive committee on Monday. They also plan to open a meeting of board of directors on Tuesday.
The executive committee, which makes Worldsteel’s top decisions, is comprised of 15 chief executives of steelmakers including POSCO CEO Chung Joon-yang. The board of directors is made up of CEOs of steelmakers that produce more than 2 million tons of steel annually.
In addition to POSCO’s Chung, Hyundai Steel president Woo Yu-cheol, Dongkuk Steel Mill chief executive Chang Sae-joo and Dongbu Steel vice chairman Lee Jong-geun are attending the meetings.
The visiting CEOs will have a chance to taste Korean food and view traditional musical and dance performances, while their spouses tour a variety of historical attractions, POSCO said.
This year’s Worldsteel conference will be held from Oct. 8 through 12 in India’s New Delhi.
