New Zealand PM visits Samsung plant

New Zealand's Prime Minister John Key visited Samsung Electronic Co.'s Suwon plant on Monday to check the latest hightech products being made by South Korea's leading technology company.

The electronics giant said the prime minister and 20 members of his entourage, including the country's ambassador to South Korea Patrick Rata, toured Samsung Digital City about 50 kilometers south of Seoul.

It said Key showed interest in Samsung's latest lineup of smart digital TV sets, Galaxy series smartphones and tablet PCs, and prototypes such as the company's electronic blackboard.

Samsung added that the prime minister wanted to check the company's innovative corporate management style and its technological prowess in cutting edge areas.

New Zealand's prime minister is in the country to take part in the two-day-long second Nuclear Security Summit. His visit also takes place as Seoul and Wellington celebrate 50 years of full diplomatic relations.

Samsung's TVs have ranked No.1 in terms of market share in the Oceanian country for the past four years, while it was rated the best seller of mobile phones in the fourth quarter of 2011.

The company first entered the advanced consumer market in 1983 and started to make a concerted effort to make inroads from 2006 onwards after it set up a regional office in the country. (Yonhap News)
