Samsung to inject 2.5 trillion won into memory chip plant

[THE INVESTOR] Samsung Electronics plans to inject an additional up to 2.5 trillion won ($2.1 billion) to beef up memory chip productions at its plant in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, the Electronic Times reported on June 14.

With the new investment plan, the Korean tech giant aims to strengthen its leadership in the soaring memory chip market. 


According to the newspaper, the funding will be used to produce a monthly 40,000 3D NAND Flash memory chip wafers. The plant is expected to start operation at the end of this year.

The company’s new production line in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province is also likely to start rolling out 3D NAND Flash chips next year.
