Rock guitarist Shin JH to take stage in U.S.

South Korean rock guitarist Shin Joong-hyun will perform his hit songs for a U.S. audience at a record label’s anniversary concert in Los Angeles at the end of September.

“Shin has been invited to perform at a concert that celebrates the 10th anniversary of the record company Light in the Attic,” said a marketing official of Guitarnet, a Korean guitar importer and distributor, which is handling Shin’s concert in the U.S. in collaboration with the record company.

U.S. label Light in the Attic released a collection of Shin’s 14 hit songs “Beautiful Rivers And Mountains: The Psychedelic Rock Sound Of South Korea’s Shin Joong Hyun 1958-74” last year in the U.S.

“The concert means a lot because Shin is playing at the overwhelming request of his fans in the U.S. His album became really popular among U.S. rock fans,” she added.

Shin will perform at one of the two main stages for about 50 minutes on Sept. 28 at El Rey Theater in Los Angeles.

The tickets sold out before the agency started to promote the concert to Korean-American residents, who usually make up the majority of the audience at Korean singers’ concerts in the U.S., the official said.

Shin played in the U.S. for Korean-American residents several times during the 1980s and 90s, but this is his first concert organized by the record company, according to the official.

Widely known as the “Godfather of Korean rock,” Shin started his career in the mid-1950s performing for U.S. troops stationed in Korea. He has developed popular success with several hit songs such as “Mee-in” and “Spring Rain.”
