Samsung Electronics Co. said Thursday it has unveiled details of its third-generation 10-nanometer processing technology.
The advanced foundry processing technology, presented at the Samsung Foundry Forum in the United States to foundry customers and partners, "is expected to be the most cost-effective cutting-edge process technology in the industry," Samsung said in a statement.
Last month, Samsung began producing the semiconductor industry's first 8-gigabyte mobile DRAM package for smartphones, based on the 10-nanometer production technology.
Finer processing technology allows a chip manufacturer to improve wafer productivity and produce a semiconductor that consumes less electricity.
Ben Suh, senior vice president of foundry marketing at Samsung Electronics, said in the statement that the company "is very confident with our technology definitions that provide design advantages on an aggressive process with manufacturability considerations."
During the forum, Samsung also showcased its 7-nanometer chip processing technology. (Yonhap)
