Samsung named most preferred brand in Russia for 6 straight years

South Korean tech giant Samsung Electronics Co. was chosen as the most-loved brand in Russia for the sixth year in a row, a survey showed Sunday.

In the survey by Russia-based Online Market Intelligence, Samsung Electronics garnered 17 percent of support from 1,500 respondents living in Russian cities with over 1 million people.

Germany sportswear company Adidas followed with 10.5 percent, and Japanese electronics company Sony came next with 10 percent, according to the survey results posted on OMI's website.

US tech behemoth Apple Inc., the biggest rival of Samsung Electronics, fell one notch from a year earlier to rank fourth with 9.7 percent. American sportswear company Nike came next with 9.4 percent.

South Korea's LG Electronics Inc. rose one notch from a year earlier to rank seventh with 4.2 percent.

Separately, Samsung said it received the top prize in Japan's Good Design Award 2016 for its furniture-like smart TV set.

Samsung's Serif TV, which comes in a stylish wood, plastic or metal frame intended to give a retro look, was designed by two renowned French designers -- the Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec brothers.

The Serif was named after the namesake font that has its edges sticking out. It is designed to stand up on its own or be hung on a wall but also comes with a pair of legs. Its fabric panel cover on the back offers users a fancy way of hiding the connectors and ports, Samsung said. (Yonhap)
