LG Electronics to release Google TV in U.S. market

LG Electronics Inc., the world's second-largest flat-screen TV maker, said Friday that it will release a smart TV powered by Google Inc.'s software in the U.S. market later this year.

The LG Electronics-manufactured Google TVs will be available on the U.S. market in the first half, the company said. The smart TV

will be first showcased during a consumer electronics show that kicks off on Tuesday next week in Las Vegas, it added.

The Internet-connected TV will be equipped with Google's Android operating system (OS), which enables users to enjoy Internet surfing and social networking, and use other applications

simultaneously, according to LG Electronics.

LG Electronics' high-end three-dimensional technology is available through its Google TV with a single click of a remote controller, the company said.

Alongside Google TV, LG Electronics will continue to advance its own smart TV platform based on NetCast. Over 60 percent of it flat-panel TVs will be powered by NetCast, it added.
