More than 500 prominent figures, including Chinese government officials and executives from Hyundai Automotive Group, attended the function in Chengdu, Sichuan province, on July 20.
Kia officials said K2 is a compact car strategically designed for Chinese customers, pinning hopes that the new car will help the company boost its sales more in the Chinese market.
The launch came on the heels of the news that Kia posted record sales in China for June, up 25 percent from a year ago. June sales recorded 31,163 units. The firm has sold 190,150 cars in the first six months of this year.
