SK C&C sets up AI business division

SK Holdings C&C, the information technology solutions unit of SK Group, said Wednesday it has revamped its organization to renew commitment to its new growth engine businesses such as artificial intelligence and cloud services.

The company said it has set up two new business divisions “Cloud Z” and “Aibril” that were named after its new brands for cloud and AI businesses, respectively.

The company also launched a new “Digital Marketing Division” that supports its clients in better using new technologies -- such as cloud, big data, the Internet of Things and AI -- in new business opportunities.

“We live in an era of IT revolution and this revolution is led by technological competitiveness,” said SK C&C CEO Park Jung-ho. “We will transform into a data service company, pouring more resources into key technologies.”

The latest organizational restructuring comes after the company last week announced it would start offering the Korean version of IBM’s Watson cognitive computing system from early next year.

Based on the Watson AI system, the company will offer services such as banking, telecommunications and health care.

The two companies also agreed to support developers and start-ups here for the wider adoption of AI across industries by creating a new fund for them.

SK C&C said it will continue to make long-term investments to help it gain a lead in the nascent market that can be extended to include robot technologies.
