Korea’s largest telecom carrier SK Telecom said Tuesday it has agreed with the Iranian government and energy companies to export its infrastructure management solutions based on the Internet of Things technology.
The agreement came as the largest-ever economic delegation from Korea visited Iran to celebrate the landmark summit talks between President Park Geun-hye and her Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani.

SK Telecom said it will be offering remote meter reading services for 5,000 households in Tehran based on its LoRa technology, a standardized IoT technology under an alliance of some 200 global companies such as Cisco and IBM.
As part of a partnership with the state-run National Iranian Gas Company, the Korean carrier will provide related network equipment and IoT solutions, while Iran’s energy and tech giant ARSH Holdings will be responsible for the operation.
SK Telecom said it has also signed a separate memorandum of understanding with Iran’s Ministry of Energy to provide remote electricity management solutions for 15 landmark buildings in the city center of Tehran.
The company said the latest deals would pave the way for it to expand its presence in the soaring Iranian market with 80 million people.
“We and our Iranian partners have agreed to expand our partnerships,” said SK Telecom CEO Jang Dong-hyun. “SK Telecom is also committed to contributing to Iran’s economic growth in the future.”
