추신수 홈런 20호 쾅!…3개 더 훔치면 20-20

추신수(신시내티 레즈)가 3년 만에 20호 홈런을 폭발시켰다.

추신수는 6일(이하 한국시간) 미국 오하이오주 신시내티 그레이트 아메리칸 볼파크에서 열린 세인트루이스 카디널스와의 미국 메이저리그 홈경기서 선발 중견수 및 1번 타자로 출장, 2-0으로 앞선 4회 세번째 타석에서 가운데 담장을 넘기는 솔로 홈런을 터뜨렸다.

추신수는 올시즌 13승의 랜스 린을 맞아 첫 타석에선 2루수 땅볼로 물러났지만 두번째 타석에서 볼넷을 골랐다. 그리고 세번째 맞대결에서 2구째 시속 146㎞짜리 투심 패스트볼을 놓치지 않고 힘있게 때려 큼지막한 아치를 그렸다. 시즌 20호이자 통산 103호 홈런. 9월 들어 치른 5경기에서 홈런을 3개나 기록한 추신수는 특히 2010년 22홈런을 기록한 이후 3년 만에 20호 홈런 고지를 밟아 기쁨이 배가 됐다.

현재 올 시즌 도루 17개를 기록한 추신수는 도루 3개만 더 보태면 개인 통산 세번째 20(홈런)-20(도루) 클럽에 가입한다. (조범기 기자)

Choo hits 20th homer en route to another 20-20 season

Choo Shin-soo of the Cincinnati Reds hit his 20th home run of the season on Thursday, with three steals left to him posting the third “20-20” season (at least 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases) of his Major League Baseball career.

Facing off against the Cardinals’ starting pitcher Lance Lynn, the outfielder slammed the ball into the stands in the bottom of the fourth inning for a solo homer. It was the third home run in five games for Choo, continuing his hot streak.

The Reds took the game 5-4 in a grueling 16-inning fight.

He posted his first 20-20 season in 2009, belting 20 home runs and 21 steals for his former team Cleveland Indians. Choo repeated the feat in the following year with 22 home runs and steals apiece.

Playing in his first season for the Reds, the 31-year-old has proven to be one of most productive outfielders and leadoff men in the MLB National League. Choo ranks second in the NL in on-base percentage (.417), runs (93) and base on balls (92).

The outstanding performance by the South Korean is expected to help him get a lucrative, multiyear contract after this season, when he becomes a free agent. He is making $7.37 million this year.
