Crop dusting helicopter crashes after hitting power cable

BOSEONG --  A crop dusting helicopter crashed on a hill near Boseong, 397 kilometers south of Seoul, after hitting a high voltage power cable, police said Sunday.

Law enforcement authorities said the 50-year-old pilot, identified by his family name of Park, was killed in the crash, while the damage to the power line cut off electricity for 60,000 households.

Repair teams from the state-run Korea Electric Power Corp. are trying to fix the damage, but restoring electricity may take up to 10 hours.

Police said the chopper, owned by an aviation company in Seoul, was hired privately to spray pesticides over chestnut trees in the area when it crashed.

"Investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the fatal crash based on testimony from witnesses and examination of the wreckage," the local police said.
