Hyundai Elevator develops foot-sensor lift

Hyundai Elevator on Thursday said it has developed a new type of elevator that can be summoned without pressing a button.

The nation’s No. 1 moving solutions provider said the New Yzer model is the first of its kind in the world to use foot motion detection to operate a “machine-roomless elevator.”

The system is triggered when sensors detect foot movements near the elevator doors and summons the lift to that floor without a button being pushed. This can be convenient for people carrying large loads in their hands.

The lift can also be set up even in buildings with small elevator shafts, Hyundai Elevator said, adding that this was an important feature since it would reduce construction cost and time.

“For a nine-person lift, the New Yzer has been able to reduce the shaft size by a maximum 5 percent vis-a-vis other machine-roomless elevators in the country,” the company said in a press release.

As of 2013, Hyundai Elevator had more than a 45 percent share of the domestic market.
