English contest offers Asians scholarships

Cambridge University’s English language department has launched a competition to find the best young Cambridge English speaker in Asia.

Open to 18- to 25-year-olds, winning candidates will be awarded with prizes including an MBA scholarship in London.

All those studying Cambridge English programs in Korea, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and India are eligible to apply.

To participate, candidates must have entered a Cambridge English exam between January and November this year.

Top performing candidates will be invited to participate. One person from each country will then be selected to attend the final international competition ― held in either China or India ― and demonstrate their public speaking skills.
The first prize is an MBA scholarship at the London School of Business and Finance, and the runner-up will receive a scholarship for the Graduate Certificate in International Business at the University of Tasmania in Australia. Other prizes, such as a laptop, will also be awarded.

“The competition provides an excellent opportunity for ambitious young learners to really show their talent for speaking English and I’m sure the standard of entries will be really high,” said Cambridge ESOL’s Duncan Rayner.
