Samsung, LG washers get top scores from U.S. magazine

U.S. magazine Consumer Reports has given top ratings to washers manufactured by South Korea’s major home appliance makers Samsung Electronics Co. and LG Electronics Inc. in its latest survey, industry sources said Sunday.

The February issue of Consumer Reports said Samsung’s front-loading WF457 and WF455 washers received the “excellent” level in washing performance, energy efficiency, water efficiency and vibration, and got “very good” in quietness to garner 89 points in total.

LG’s WM8000 front-loading washer also tied with Samsung’s two models with 89 points.

Samsung’s washing machines are equipped with its exclusive “powerfoam” technology which infuses detergent with air and water to create a powerful cleaning foam that penetrates fabrics quicker, according to the sources.

Its vibration reduction technology has made the washers so quiet that they can be installed on the second floor of a wooden house, they added.

For top-loading washing machines, Samsung’s WA422 model won a total of 82 points to lead its segment, with “excellent” in washing performance and “very good” in capacity, energy efficiency and water efficiency.

LG’s WT5070 top-loading washing machine was the runner-up with 81 points and its WT4801 model came next.

Consumer Reports has also put Samsung’s six front-loading washers and four top-loading washing machines on its recommended list, according to the sources. (Yonhap News)
