Samsung Electronics said Wednesday that it expects to beat top global makers of personal computers with its new smart PC which operates on the upcoming Windows 8, named ATIV PC.

The world’s largest tech firm unveiled ATIV PC at a media event in its Seoul headquarters. The new product maximizes convertibility in design, portability in use and compatibility with smartphone apps, the company said.

“The vendors of personal computers will jump into the war by the end of this year to take more market share in a shorter period of time,” said the company’s executive vice president Nam Seong-woo. “We expect that we will be able to top other rival products with our smart PC.”

The ATIV PC’s touch-screen monitor can be detached from the keyboard. The computer is also fully compatible with all features of Windows 8 and is equipped with a quick-start list of popular apps.

Wireless transfer of files from and to other Samsung devices such as note PCs, smartphones and televisions is a distinguishing feature of ATIV PC.
