March rumored for iPad 3 launch

Apple's iPad 3 will make its debut in the first week of March, sources told AllThingsD.

The tech news site reported Wednesday unnamed sources have said the first week of next month has been chosen by Apple for the launch event, probably at San Francisco's Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, site of a number of the company's past events.

John Paczkowski, writing for AllThingsD, said he believes "retail availability will follow roughly the same schedule as that of the iPad 2: available for purchase a week or so after the event."

Both the first-generation iPad and the iPad 2 were introduced at the Yerba Buena Center, in 2010 and 2011 respectively, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Apple officials would not comment on the speculation on a launch day.

Rumors of the impending iPad 3 launch saw Apple stock rise $17.12, or 3.59 percent, to $493.80 per share Thursday. (UPI)

애플이 3월 첫째주에 아이패드3을 출 시하는 행사를 할 계획이라고 소식통을 인용해 월스트리트저널 IT전문 자매사이트인 올싱스디가 9일(현지시간) 보도했다.

이번 출시 행사는 애플이 고(故) 스티브 잡스가 생전에 주요 제품 출시 때마다 발표장소로 즐겨 이용했던 장소인 샌프란시스코 소재 예바 부에나 센터에서 열릴 예 정이다.

소식통은 아이패드3가 실제로 판매되는 시점에 대해서는 언급하지 않았지만 아이패드2의 전례에 비춰 출시 발표 이후 1∼2주 정도가 지나면 가능할 것이라고 올싱 스디는 전했다.

차기 아이패드는 현재 각종 매체에서 추측했던 것처럼 처리속도와 그래픽 처리능력이 향상되고 고해상도(2048×1536)의 레티나 디스플레이가 장착될 것으로 전해졌다.

애플 대변인은 발표 이벤트가 열리는 시기 등에 대해 코멘트를 거부했다.
