Fund-raiser to help single mothers’ group

Quarterly Expat-Korean charity concert CLASH will open again Saturday, with proceeds going to the Korean Unwed Mothers Families’ Association.

The show brings together hip-hop and rock acts from both the expat and Korean communities, with all proceeds going to a good cause.

As this edition is in aid of a women’s organization, there is a strong female representation among the lineup.

Four of the seven acts are women or predominately feature women, including expat band Baekma as well as headliner Jolly V, a Korean rapper who was a featured contestant on hit MNet audition show “Show Me the Money 3.”

The event will be hosted by Rydia Kim, the head of the Varyd clothing line with DJ Scotticus Finch spinning. The Korea International Institute of the Arts is sponsoring the event.

Other acts are Korean rock act Band Man, hip-hop act Jack Zilla & CJ Infinite and another “Show Me the Money 3” contestant, rapper Jin Jun-wang. The opening performances will come from duo Bobby Sang Good, R&B singer ANNA, who recently featured on reggae artist Skull’s first solo album “King O’ Irie,” and power duet Sonya-Maria and Oro Padron.

CLASH raises funds for four different causes on rotation. These include Justice for North Korea, the Angel House disabled shelter and the Butterfly Fund, which was founded by survivors of Japanese wartime sexual slavery to help other victims of sexual violence in war.

This event’s cause, KUMFA, advocates for the rights of unwed pregnant women, and unwed mothers and their children in Korea, with the aim of enabling Korean women to have sufficient support to keep their babies if they choose, and thrive in Korean society.

KUMFA also runs HEATER, a shelter for mothers and their children that houses and feeds mothers and their children for up to two months, free of charge.

The show will run at Freebird 2, in the south side of Hongdae in Seoul, next to the Aa Design Museum.

Doors open at 7:30 p.m., the show begins at 8 p.m. and tickets are 10,000 won at the door. More information can be found at the CLASH 9 Facebook event page.
