PepsiCo’s Mountain Dew division withdrew an ad on Wednesday after it was criticized for portraying racial stereotypes and alluding to violence towards women.

The ad created by African-American rapper Tyler depicted a battered white woman urged by the police officer to identify the offender from the lineup mostly of black men.

The lineup also included a goat named Felicia who made threatening comments to the woman such as “Ya better not snitch on a playa” and “Keep ya mouth shut.”

A group of women and African-Americans who found it offensive expressed their objection through the company’s consumer relations team on Tuesday.
As soon as the soda and snack food company noticed the controversies flaring up over its ad, it immediately removed its content from all Mountain Dew channels as well as Tyler’s.

“We apologize for this video and take full responsibility,” the company said through an undated statement late in the Wednesday afternoon.

Mountain Dew came under pressure because of its endorsement deal with rapper Lil Wayne who had gotten into a dispute over a controversial line in his album.
