The International Artist Community and the Professional Artist Network Korea are inviting artists to reflect on their creative growth by recreating art from their childhoods.
The idea for the “Revisited: Interpretations of our Past Creations” exhibition came when IAC head Mike Stewart saw a picture he drew at 4 years old posted on Facebook by his mother.
“I thought it would be interesting to see what I could do with that image or design at my age now, just as a goof and as a silly personal challenge,” he said.

“So about a week later I sat down and made the same image, interpreted it imagining what I must have been thinking when I was drawing the original.”
When he posted the reworked sketch alongside the original, the strong response he got inspired him to create an exhibition.
The exhibition will feature eight to 10 artists’ similar reworkings of childhood artwork, alongside the originals.
He said the organizers would consider any media including 3-D.
Stewart said he hadn’t decided whether he would show his work, but that if he did it would likely be a more involved project than his example, perhaps using his usual medium of printmaking. He hasn’t been able to try reworking any more of his early work because living abroad made access to them a slow process.
For this reason, there is a long deadline to allow people to get work sent from home.
Proposals for work to be included in the exhibition should be submitted to koreaiac@gmail.com by Oct. 1. The exhibition will run Dec. 3-23 in Anni Gallery near Insa-dong.
A participation fee will be collected from the chosen artists to help pay for the exhibition. Artists are strongly encouraged to put a sale price on their new works, of which 30 percent will go to the gallery.
