The Nuclear Safety and Security Commission made the decision after completing planned maintenance of the Shin-Kori No. 3 reactor near the southern port city of Busan, said Lee Enu-hong, an official of the Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co. The 1,400-megawatt reactor went offline on Jan. 12 for scheduled maintenance.

The Shin-Kori No. 3 reactor is set to operate at full capacity starting on Monday.

Currently, South Korea operates 24 nuclear reactors that generate 27 percent of its total power. (Yonhap)
