The Asian Storytelling Committee is accepting submissions for its International Contest for Asian Creative Story until Aug. 31.
The Asia Storytelling Committee aims to promote cultural exchanges across the continent. For its first project in 2011, it chose 23 myths, folktales and epics seen to be representative of Korea and Central Asia, which were then translated into Russian, English and Korean to make them accessible to an international audience.
Through another initiative, the Asia Culture Complex Story Discovery Project, 100 representative stories of Asia were chosen.
The creative story contest is based on the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s selection “The 200 Stories of Asia.”
A submission to the International Contest for Asian Creative Story may be either a creative narrative or digital cartoon based on any tale from “The 200 Stories of Asia.” The winners will be announced in October and invited to an award ceremony the following month.
The grand prize winner will win a 15 million won ($14,600) cash prize while five runners-up will receive 1 million won. Awards of 2 million won will also be given by the ministries of the participating countries to five winning contestants.
Submission guidelines and a list of the eligible tales and myths can be seen at asiastoryroad.com. All amateur and professional writers regardless of age, gender or nationality are encouraged to participate.
