Calendar sale helps dog sanctuary

Expats are helping to sell Christmas cards and calendars to raise money for a local shelter for abandoned pets.

The money raised will go to help Busan Abandoned Pet Sanctuary, which sells calendars every year, featuring pictures of current and former BAPS dogs.

Among those selling calendars is Ashleigh Simons, who has helped out for just over six months at BAPS, a volunteer-funded private dog shelter. She got involved in volunteering there after adopting her first dog, and she has since adopted a second.

After setting a personal fund-raising target of 1 million won, Simons has raised 905,000 so far for Busan Abandoned Pet Sanctuary. Nonetheless, she says she has many more calendars and cards to sell.

“Christmas sales are a huge fund-raising generator and the money raised supports the shelter in the New Year,” she said.

“If all calendars are sold then we will have covered the running costs for four months.”

Simons is selling calendars locally and delivering to people in Ulsan, but says that people from further afield can buy the calendars online through shindogs.org/products-page.
