U.S. Ambassador to Korea Sung Kim will receive the inaugural Korean-American Club Award on Monday.

The club is a research society and social group of former and current Korean correspondents to the United States. Pong Du-wan, also known as “David Pong,” former news anchorman of the now defunct TBC-TV, heads the club.

The award recognizes Kim’s accomplishments in the continued development of Korean-U.S. relations and the strong alliance between the two countries.

Kim served as a Special Envoy in the Six-Party Talks, holding the rank of ambassador. Before that, he headed the Office of Korean Affairs at the U.S. Department of State.

Kim was born in Seoul and grew up in Los Angeles.

The club will host a reception for members of the U.S. Embassy and U.S. soldiers stationed in Korea at Lotte Hotel Seoul on Monday at 6 p.m. The award will be presented during the reception.
