Korean male figure skater Kim Min-seok failed to qualify for the free skating at the ongoing world championships here in Russia.
Kim scored 56.19 points in his short program of the 2011 World Figure Skating Championships at Megasport Arena Wednesday, Russian time, to rank 27th among 30 skaters. Only the top 24 from the short program qualified for the free skating scheduled for Thursday.
Kim started off with a successful triple Axel but later lost a point on a triple lutz and received only Level 1, the lowest score, for his step sequence.
Kim Yu-na, the reigning Olympic gold medalist and the 2009 world champion, is scheduled to compete in the women’s short program Friday. She is the only South Korean left at these championships.
