美 배우 짐 캐리 여자친구 숨져...‘자살로 추정’

25세 연하인 짐 캐리의 전 여자친구로 알려진 카트리나 화이트가 지난 28일 미국 로스앤젤레스 인근 자신의 아파트에서 사망했다고 외신이 보도했다.

그녀의 사망소식을 보도한 매체에 따르면 카트리나는 약물 과다 복용으로 자살한 것으로 추정되고 있다.

짐 캐리와 카트리나 화이트는 지난 2012년 연인으로 발전했으나 결별과 재회를 반복했었다. 그러나 그녀의 유서에 짐 캐리와 최종적으로 헤어진 것으로 밝혀졌다고 전해졌다.

그녀의 자살 소식에 접한 짐 캐리는 “큰 충격과 슬픔을 느끼고 있다. 그녀는 많은 이들에게 사랑받을 만한 여자다” 라고 심경을 전했다.

Jim Carrey’s girlfriend found dead in apparent suicide

The on-again, off-again girlfriend of US actor Jim Carrey has died at her California home of an apparent suicide, police said Tuesday.

“Cathriona White, 30, was pronounced dead by paramedics Monday evening,” Fred Corral, a spokesman at the Los Angeles County coroner’s office, told AFP.

He said White’s death was being treated as a suicide.

Local news reports said the couple, who have been dating on and off since 2012, broke up last Thursday.

White sent a cryptic message on her Twitter account that day that read:
“Signing off Twitter, I hope I have been a light to my nearest and dearest.”
Carrey said in a statement that he was “deeply saddened by the passing of my sweet Cathriona.”

“She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled,” the 53-year-old actor added.

“My heart goes out to her family and friends and to everyone who loved and cared about her. We have all been hit with a lightning bolt.”

White was found at her home Monday evening by a friend who called emergency services. She had reportedly left behind a note. (AFP)
