S. Korea names team for Turkey friendly

South Korea on Monday announced a 22-man football roster for a friendly match against Turkey next month.

The lineup has 14 carryovers from the recently concluded Asian Cup in Doha, Qatar, led by midfielder Koo Ja-cheol. Koo topped all scorers in Doha with five goals and helped South Korea finish third behind Japan and Australia.

There are three national team rookies for head coach Cho Kwang-rae: forward Nam Tae-hee of Valenciennes in the first-division French league, and defensive backs Hong Cheol of Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma and Yoon Suk-young of Chunnam Dragons, both in the K-League of South Korea.

Park Chu-young, forward for AS Monaco in the French league, will return to the national team after sitting out the Asian Cup with a knee injury. He sustained cartilage damage while celebrating a goal in league play just before the Asian tournament.

South Korea will travel to Trabzon, Turkey to face the Eurasian country on Feb. 9. Turkey is coached by Dutchman Guus Hiddink, who guided South Korea to the semifinals of the 2002 FIFA World Cup, co-hosted by South Korea and Japan.
