A police officer in a Philadelphia suburb was charged Tuesday with faking a shooting while he was investigating a suspicious car.
Jon Cousin, 31, an officer in Chalfont, Pa., said one of the occupants of an Oldsmobile Cutlass parked in the lot of the Lenape Valley Swim Club fired at him early Monday morning, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported. He said he returned fire.
Bucks County District Attorney David Heckler said investigators quickly became suspicious of Cousin‘s version of events. He said there was a .380-caliber bullet in Cousin’s vest that should have caused some visible injury like a welt or bruises “but he simply was not injured.”
A woman living near the swim club who was up late reading said she only heard three shots, while Cousin said he and the gunman fired three shots each. Officers found three .45-caliber casings from Cousin‘s service weapon in the lot but none from a .380-caliber gun.
They also learned Cousin owns a .380-caliber Ruger.
Cousin was formally charged Tuesday on counts of filing false reports, official oppression and endangering public safety. Heckler said he will ask for a psychiatric evaluation before Cousin is released. (UPI)

그러나 벅스카운티 지방검사 데이비드 헤클러(David Heckler)는 조사과정에서 커즌 경관의 진술에서 이상한 부분이 발견되었다고 밝혔다. 헤클러는 커즌 경관의 방탄조끼에서 0.38구경 탄환이 발견되었다고 말하며, 만약 이 탄환이 정말 당시에 발사되었다면 경관의 신체에 찰과상이나 멍 자국과 같은 보다 가시적인 상처가 남았어야 하는데 커즌 경관의 몸에서는 부상이 발견되지 않았다고 밝혔다.
사건 현장 인근의 한 주민은 단 세 발의 총성 밖에 듣지 못했다고 진술해 자신과 용의자가 각각 세 발씩 발포했다고 주장한 커즌 경관의 진술과 대조를 이루었다. 조사 과정에서 커즌 경관이 발포한 0.45구경의 탄피 3개가 발견되었고 0.38구경 탄환은 없었고, 곧 이어 커즌 경관이 0.38구경 루거 권총을 또한 소지하고 있었다는 사실이 밝혀졌다.
커즌 경관에 대한 공식 기소는 허위보고, 공권력남용 및 국민안전위협 등의 혐의로 화요일 처리되었다. 헤클러 검사는 커즌 경관이 석방되기에 앞서 정신병 진단을 요청할 계획이라고 밝혔다. (코리아헤럴드)
