Armed police are hunting for a lion that was reported to be on the loose in Essex, England on Sept. 26, according to news reports. No one has claimed this lion, but it is believed to have escaped from The Great British Circus.
Residents of the county were told to stay indoors after there were multiple reports of sightings near St Osyth. Rich Baker and his two boys spotted the lion and made a run for their lives.
“A man started running towards us yelling ‘It’ a ******* lion!’ He looked so panicked you knew it was not a joke,” the 39-year-old van driver stated. “I grabbed my children’s hands and we ran toward our caravan. My children started to scream, ‘daddy, is the lion going to get us?’”
Baker added, “There were a dozen or so people who saw it. We are staying on the caravan park down the road. It’s very busy -- it’s a seaside resort and a bank holiday.”
Two police helicopters and around 30 police men are searching for the predator. Police are working with experts from the Colchester Zoo to locate the loose lion and figure out where he came from.
