Improv comedy show to run in Itaewon

Seoul City Improv is running a show at the Bull and Barrel in Itaewon on Saturday.

“We’re always looking for new ways to expand the art of improv, and we hope to show you a few of the new games we’ve got up our sleeve at the Bull & Barrel show this month,” said SCI president Don Eskridge.

“We’ll be performing short-form in the first half and long-form in the second half, hoping to achieve the best of both worlds. We certainly love both forms of improv and think the audience will, too,” he said.

Short-form improv usually involves quick games where performers are given silly things to do based on suggestions from the audience, whereas long-form tends to last 10 minutes or longer, for example by using suggestions to create a short play.

“Long-form improv generally involves either following a specific group of characters through a series of events, or exploring a general theme through a variety of situations,” said Eskridge. “Both are fascinating, and there’s just no way to tell which will happen at the upcoming show.”

The show starts 9 p.m. and lasts about an hour and a half, with a 10-15 minute intermission. Entrance is 5,000 won.
