The Gwangju International Center’s GIC Culture Tour will head to Boseong on June 22 for a day of tea, ceramics and clam picking.
The area in South Jeolla Province is best known for its tea plantations. The group will head to the Mongjung Dawon, a tea plantation that restricts visitors to protect its crop.
After a guided tour around the tea bushes, the group will enjoy refreshments in its secluded tea shop.
The next stop will be the workshop of ceramicist Hong Seung-il. Hong will explain his work and demonstrate glazing and firing. Participants will each receive a sample of his work.
After a beachside lunch of green-tea pork, the final stop will be Seonso, a fishing village where participants can take advantage of the low tide to dig up some clams. Each will be allowed to take up to 1 kg of clams with them.
The tour leaves at 8:50 a.m. and costs 60,000 won for GIC members and 70,000 won for non-members, including lunch, travel, insurance and activities.
To join the group, sign up by June 16 via www.gic.or.kr. Contact gictour@gic.or.kr for more information.
